My bet on the Future: 14n (not meant that serious ;-)

Stardate Aug-2013, these are the voyages of Oracle corporation. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds...

Time to think about the future of Oracle. The lower case letters accompanying the version numbers of Oracle's products did change every third release so far: 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c, ...

What might be the next but one? (based on the presumtion that the intelligence services will not burst the cloud bubble prematurely so that we'll see a 13c release someday ;-)

Will computers work after the same principle by then? I have my doubts. The von-Neumann reference architecture of data and instructions in a common memory might have hit it's limits by then. The truly best concepts were always developed by nature. The best computer therefore is the human brain: It's synapses are doing really heavy parallel processing of sensor data. It is even able to reconfigure itself to adopt to new tasks. Certainly, I would love to see these concepts in Oracle applications one day...threrefore:

My bet goes on "n" for neural.

Feel free to revisit this Blog post around 2020 ;-)
