Today, Forrester Research released a report on their view on the the future of Java.
For me, it sounds too pessimistic. With Oracle taking over SUN's responsabilities, nothing substantially changed in the way handling JAVA, except the process gaining speed in general (e.g. towards JDK7/8). All controversially discussed problems originated in the pre-Oracle era, just some people took action at exaclty the wrong time.
A community process depends on it's members. We are Java. Let's take an active part and it will flourish. A good starting point for you might be a Java user's group, e.g. the iJUG.
